Cover that ugly ceiling light! We built this shade out of our own frustration with harsh, unflattering ceiling lighting. Inspired by Japanese paper lanterns, each shade is made from handmade rice paper that softly diffuses your light. No tools, no wiring, no stress. Just pop it over that dreaded boob light and fill your room with a warm, ambient glow.
Fits any standard flush-mount ceiling lights. The rice paper adds a warm natural texture, and the included adhesive is removable and renter-friendly.

Inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s iconic paper lanterns, each KAMI cover is hand crafted from paper and a lightweight metal frame.
It ships flat and is designed to easily attach over your existing ceiling light.
KAMI does not include lightbulbs.
For safety, make sure no bulbs touch the cover. Use only LED bulbs. Halogen or incandescent bulbs can run too hot and will damage the paper. LED color-changing bulbs work great with this product and give it an entirely new look and feel.

Will it fit my ceiling light?
Kami Shade fits most standard flush or semi-flush ceiling lights up to 15 inches in diameter. If you’re unsure, send us a photo of your light — we’ll confirm for you.
Is it renter friendly?
Yes, completely. KAMI attaches with removable command strips, so you can install it without tools or damage. When it’s time to move, just peel it off and take it with you.
Does it come with a lightbulb?
Nope! KAMI is a shade, not a full light fixture. You’ll use it with your existing ceiling light and LED bulbs.
Can I move it to my next apartment?
Definitely. KAMI is easy to remove and re-install, and it ships flat so you can take it anywhere.
Is it only for “boob lights”?
That’s where it shines, but it can work with other ceiling lights too, as long as the base is under 15”
Who came up with this?
KAMI was created by Evan and Isa, two students from the Parsons School of Design. What started as a simple idea to make “boob lights” look better turned into a year-long design project — dozens of prototypes later, KAMI was born.
Is it safe?
Yes. Each shade is crafted in the same way as traditional paper lanterns, using a lightweight metal frame and durable handmade paper. It’s completely safe to use as long as you pair it with LED bulbs only, never halogen or incandescent, which can run too hot.
